The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Domingo Santana on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday due to right elbow inflammation.

Santana has been battling elbow soreness since July 23. The move is retroactive to Monday.

The Mariners recalled outfielder Jake Fraley from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Santana, 27, is batting .256 with 21 homers and 69 RBIs in 115 games in his first season with Seattle. He was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason for outfielder Ben Gamel and a minor leaguer.

Santana hasn’t played in the field since suffering the injury. He has struggled as the designated hitter, going 6-for-49 with two homers and four RBIs.

Fraley, 24, will be making his major league debut when he enters a game. He was a second-round pick in 2016 by the Tampa Bay Rays and arrived in Seattle along with outfielder Mallex Smith in exchange for catcher Mike Zunino and two others in an offseason move.

Fraley began the season at Double-A Arkansas and batted .313 with 11 homers and 47 RBIs. He was promoted to Triple-A Tacoma and hit .276 with eight homers and 33 RBIs in 38 games.
