The St. Louis Cardinals designated right-hander Dominic Leone for assignment Wednesday.
The 28-year-old struggled in two seasons out of the Cardinals’ bullpen. He went 1-0 with a 5.53 ERA and one save in 40 relief appearances in 2019, allowing a career-worst nine home runs in 40 2/3 innings.
In 229 career appearances over parts of six seasons for four teams, Leone is 13-10 with a 3.92 ERA and two saves.
The Cardinals acquired Leone from Toronto on Jan. 19, 2018, in a deal that sent outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Blue Jays.
