The Texas Rangers designated veteran slugger Khris Davis for assignment on Tuesday and called up infielder-outfielder Eli White from Triple-A Round Rock.

Acquired in a Feb. 6 trade with the Oakland Athletics involving Elvis Andrus, Davis has hit .157 in 22 games this season, with only two home runs and five RBIs.

A seventh-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009, he was among the majors’ leading power hitters, crushing 133 home runs for the Athletics from 2016-18.

He also proved consistent, hitting exactly .247 for four consecutive seasons, 2015-18.

Davis, 33, has 220 career home runs and 585 RBIs over nine seasons with Milwaukee and Oakland.

The Rangers have seven days to trade, release or outright Davis to the minors.

White, 26, who was hitting .343 at Round Rock through 20 games, has struggled at the big-league level in 2021, hitting only .127 and collecting four RBIs through 22 games without a home run.

He hit .188 in 19 games last season for the Rangers.
