The Toronto Blue Jays activated veteran Clay Buchholz from the 10-day injured list and also got back fellow right-hander Ken Giles from the paternity list in a flurry of roster activity in advance of Sunday’s game at Seattle.

The Blue Jays not only optioned right-handers Brock Stewart and Justin Shafer back to Triple-A Buffalo, they also designated right-hander Nick Kingham for assignment.

Buchholz, 35, has not pitched since May 5 at Texas because of a Grade 2 teres major strain in his upper back/right shoulder. He was 0-2 with a 6.57 ERA in five starts earlier this season with the Blue Jays.

Giles, who last pitched Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, is 2-2 with a 1.80 ERA over 40 appearances this season.

Stewart has made three appearances for the Blue Jays after he was selected off waivers from the Dodgers in July. He is 3-0 with Toronto and has a 3.77 ERA.

Shafer is 1-1 with a 3.19 ERA in 26 appearances, while Kingham was 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 11 games with Toronto after he was traded for cash considerations from the Pittsburgh Pirates in June.
