Nets name Kevin Ollie as interim head coach

The Brooklyn Nets named Kevin Ollie as interim head coach on Tuesday, one day after firing Jacque Vaughn.

Ollie, 51, joined Vaughn’s staff as an assistant coach prior to the start of this season.

He was the head coach for six seasons (2012-18) at his alma mater, UConn, and led the Huskies to the 2014 NCAA Tournament championship. He had a 127-79 record in his UConn tenure.

Ollie headed up the Overtime Elite program from 2021-23 before joining the Nets.

He played 662 games in the NBA over 13 seasons for 11 different franchises, averaging 3.8 points and 2.3 assists.

The Nets parted ways with Vaughn after entering the All-Star break at 21-33, 11th in the Eastern Conference.

Brooklyn has lost five of its poast six games, including an embarrassing 136-86 setback at Boston last Wednesday.

Ollie will make his debut on Thursday night at Toronto.
