Spain tops Argentina for World Cup title

Spain defeated Argentina 95-75 to capture its second World Cup title on Sunday in Beijing.

Ricky Rubio scored 20 points, Sergio Luill had 15 and Marc Gasol chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Rubio, of the Phoenix Suns, was named tournament MVP.

This was the second championship this year for Gasol, who won the NBA championship in June with the Toronto Raptors. He was the only Spanish player who was part of Spain’s 2006 world championship team.

Spain took a 14-2 lead at the start, but Argentina scored 11 unanswered points. Still. Spain never trailed in the game.

Argentina’s Gabriel Deck led all scorers with 24 pints. Nico Laprovíttola scored 17 and Facundo Campazzo had 11 for Team Argentina.

Team USA finished the tournament in a disappointing seventh place.
