Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic sustained a sprained ankle early in the first quarter of Saturday’s home game against the Miami Heat and did not return.

Doncic stepped on the foot of Miami’s Kendrick Nunn and immediately grabbed at his right ankle just 1:40 into the game. He remained on the floor for several moments before hobbling to the locker room with trainer Casey Smith.

X-rays on the ankle were negative, but Doncic was ruled out the rest of the game, and head coach Rick Carlisle told reporters afterward he likely won’t play Monday when Milwaukee visits.

“We hope it’s not serious,” Carlisle said, adding that Doncic could put weight on the leg. “… That’s about all that we have for you now.”

Doncic entered Saturday’s contest averaging team-leading totals in points (30.4), rebounds (9.9) and assists (9.3) this season.

The Mavericks lost 122-118 in overtime.
