Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Bogut was diagnosed with a concussion on Wednesday after bumping heads with New Orleans Pelicans forward Dante Cunningham in the season opener the previous night.

Bogut was placed into the NBA’s concussion protocol. The Warriors didn’t indicate when Bogut is expected to return, but he’ll likely miss a trip to play the Houston Rockets on Friday night and the Pelicans on Saturday night in New Orleans.

The 7-foot veteran, who was wearing a mask to protect a broken nose, received three stitches under his eye to close a cut after the collision with Cunningham while going for a rebound on a missed shot by Warriors guard Stephen Curry in the third quarter.

“Obviously, we’re a much better team with him on the floor,” Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said. “But there’s nothing that worrying about it can help the situation.”

Bogut was 6 of 6 from the field for 12 points and had five rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots on Wednesday night against the Pelicans.
