The Utah Jazz will be without All-Star Donovan Mitchell on Wednesday after the guard went into concussion protocol in advance of the team’s home game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Mitchell started showing concussion symptoms Wednesday morning, one day after Utah earned a 108-94 victory over the New York Knicks to extend their NBA-best winning streak to nine games, team officials said in a statement.

There was no indication as to when the head injury might have occurred, although Mitchell did take an inadvertent elbow from the Knicks’ Austin Rivers on Tuesday and he was also knocked to the ground on a rebound attempt by Mitchell Robinson.

In his fourth season, the 24-year-old former No. 13 overall draft selection by the Denver Nuggets in 2017 has averaged 23.4 points with 4.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists. He has averaged 22.7 points per game in his career with 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

Utah’s current winning streak had moved it into second place in the Western Conference before the start of play Wednesday at 13-3. The Jazz sit a half-game behind the Los Angeles Lakers in the standings.

Mitchell has scored 25.2 points per game during the winning streak, but was limited to a season-low nine points in Tuesday’s game against the Knicks on 3-of-15 shooting from the field in 34 minutes.
