The Arizona Cardinals put four players, including former Pro Bowl running back James Conner, on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday for being high-risk close contacts, according to multiple outlets.
Tight end Darrell Daniels, defensive lineman Leki Fotu and defensive back Charles Washington joined Conner on the list.
The moves come one day ahead of Arizona’s first preseason game, against the Dallas Cowboys. It also signifies that all four players have not been vaccinated; only unvaccinated players have to go on the COVID list for being close contacts to someone who has tested positive.
The players must quarantine for at least five days.
The Cardinals had nine players in COVID protocols last month.
The Cardinals signed Conner to a one-year deal in April. Conner had Hodgkin’s lymphoma while in college at Pittsburgh. It went into remission in the spring of 2016. He rushed for 2,302 yards and 22 touchdowns the past four seasons in Pittsburgh after the Steelers drafted him in the third round of the 2017 draft.
He played in 50 games (33 starts) and made the Pro Bowl after the 2018 season. He’s expected to share the backfield with Chase Edmonds this season.
Daniels had eight catches for 92 yards and a score in 12 games (eight starts) last season for Arizona.
The Cardinals open the season at the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 12.
