The Arizona Cardinals are signing veteran Alfred Morris to shore up their banged-up corps of running backs, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

The Cardinals had one healthy running back in Sunday’s win at the New York Giants — Chase Edmonds — as starter David Johnson took one carry while nursing an ankle injury and third-stringer D.J. Foster was out with a hamstring injury.

Morris, 30, was released from Dallas in early September when the Cowboys brought back Ezekiel Elliott from his holdout.

Morris was a sixth-round pick of the Redskins in the 2012 NFL Draft and spent four seasons with Washington before his first go-round with the Cowboys in 2016-17. He played with the San Francisco 49ers in 2018, gaining 428 yards and scoring twice.

In seven seasons, Morris has run for 5,931 yards and scored 34 touchdowns. He topped 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons.

Before going with Morris, the Cardinals had workouts with two veteran running backs coming back from injury — Jay Ajayi and Spencer Ware, according to reports Monday.

The Cardinals released linebacker Ramik Wilson on Tuesday. The 27-year-old played five snaps on special teams on Oct. 13 against Atlanta.
