The Los Angeles Chargers did not activate left tackle Russell Okung before 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, meaning Okung will have to wait until at least Week 8 to make his season debut.

Okung announced Thursday he was returning — and could play as soon as Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans — after spending the first six weeks on the reserve/non-football injury list while recovering from a pulmonary embolism that sidelined him since June.

Okung practiced Thursday and Friday, though his level of participation is unclear. The team is not required to put Okung on the injury report until he is back on the 53-man roster.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Okung is in his third season with Los Angeles following one year in Denver (2016) and six with Seattle (2010-15). He has started 118 regular-season games and 14 playoff games, including the Seahawks’ 43-8 win against Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Chargers visit the Chicago Bears after Sunday’s game in Tennessee. Second-year undrafted free agent Trent Scott has started every game at left tackle this season, allowing 2.5 sacks and taking three penalties.
