Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets due to his injured right ankle.
Jacobs was injured during last Sunday’s 43-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Safety Johnathan Abram (knee) also was ruled out.
“I was optimistic that they would both play in New York, or New Jersey, but I was wrong,” Raiders coach Jon Gruden said of Jacobs and Abram on Friday. “I’ve been wrong a lot lately … but we hope to have those guys back next week. If we don’t, we’ll carry on. We’ve got capable players and we’ll be ready to play.”
Jacobs has rushed for 782 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games this season. His average per carry is just 3.8, down from the 4.8 he averaged last season when he had 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games as a rookie.
Devontae Booker will start in place of Jacobs. Booker is averaging 5.5 yards while rushing for 326 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games.
Abram has two interceptions and leads the Raiders with 63 tackles.
Defensive Maliek Collins (hamstring/ankle) also was ruled out. Listed as questionable are defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (ankle/calf) and cornerbacks Isaiah Johnson (groin) and Trayvon Mullen (illness).
Gruden said defensive end Clelin Ferrell will return after missing the past two games while on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
