Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey said Tuesday he will report to training camp on time, with or without a new contract in place.

“The Rams know where I stand, and I think that’s all that matters at the end of the day,” he told the NFL Network’s Steve Wyche. “It will get handled. They have been in contact with my agent. They are on the same page. They know what’s up. I know what’s up. I’m going to let them handle that.

“I can’t worry about that. I can control what I can control. Everybody knew what type of situation it was going to be once they traded for me. It doesn’t need to be talked about that much. It will get handled. I will let them handle the business side of it. I will focus on football.”

The Rams acquired Ramsey midway through the 2019 season in a trade that sent two first-round picks and a 2021 fourth-rounder to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 25-year-old three-time Pro Bowl selection is due to earn $13.7 million in the fifth-year option of his rookie contract in 2020.

Rams coach Sean McVay addressed Ramsey’s situation on a video conference with reporters.

“There’s a lot of dialogue,” McVay said. “The anticipation in acquiring him is that he is a Ram for a long time. We went and got this guy with the hope that it’s not a short-term thing.”

McVay said he has been impressed by Ramsey’s leadership during virtual meetings this offseason.

“When he came in (last season), I was so impressed. Now you have a foundation where you’re able to talk to him about stuff outside of football. You really get a feel for his football acumen and seeing the game through the lens he sees it,” McVay said.” It’s going to be fun watching him grow. I’m just really enjoying getting to know him better as a human being. The more I know, the more I love this guy.”

Between nine games with the Rams and three with the Jaguars, Ramsey finished 2019 with 50 tackles, five passes defensed and one interception.

Through 60 career games, the 2016 first-round pick (No. 5 overall) has 243 tackles, 49 passes defensed, 10 interceptions and three forced fumbles. He was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2017.
