The Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills will play Tuesday night in Nashville instead of Sunday afternoon after another positive test in the Titans organization.
The schedule change came after a long day for the Titans, who kept their facility closed after learning of another positive COVID-19 result from Wednesday’s testing. A previous inconclusive test was confirmed as a positive as the coronavirus count for the franchise climbed to 23 (13 players, 10 team personnel) since Sept. 24.
The Tuesday game could be postponed again if more positive tests come out of the Titans organization. If it remains as scheduled, it would start at 7 p.m. ET and air on CBS.
If the Bills-Titans game is played Tuesday, the NFL would push back Buffalo’s following game, which had been scheduled for next Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs in Orchard Park, N.Y. The latter contest instead would be held Oct. 18.
The NFL also moved the Patriots’ home game against the Denver Broncos from Sunday to Monday after New England quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore landed on the league’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
“These scheduling decisions were made to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel and in consultation with medical experts,” the NFL stated in a press release.
On Thursday afternoon, the Titans announced they put tight end MyCole Pruitt and practice squad defensive back Breon Borders on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
In three games (one start) on the season, Pruitt has three catches for 17 yards and a touchdown. Borders has played in 13 games over the past three seasons with Buffalo, Jacksonville and Washington, and has recorded seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
Off last week due to a postponement of the scheduled game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Titans have not been allowed in the team facility for more than a week.
The NFL is discussing possibly shifting the standard for playoff teams to include winning percentage as the primary factor to determine the expanded playoff field — over total wins — if teams wind up playing fewer than the scheduled 16-game regular season schedule, ESPN reported.
