Running back Christian McCaffrey won’t play in the Carolina Panthers’ season finale against the New Orleans Saints, coach Matt Rhule said on Wednesday.

McCaffrey will miss his seventh straight game due to quadriceps and shoulder injuries.

Earlier in the season, McCaffrey missed six games with an ankle injury after he was injured in Week 2.

McCaffrey finishes the season with 225 rushing yards and five touchdowns and 17 receptions for 149 yards and one score.

Last season, McCaffrey recorded an NFL-high 2,392 yards from scrimmage and became the third running back in league history to both run for at least 1,000 yards and gain 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. He finished with 1,387 rushing yards and 1,005 receiving yards to join Roger Craig (1985) and Marshall Faulk (1999) as members of the club.

McCaffrey recorded 116 catches in 2019, most ever by a running back. He set the previous mark of 107 in 2018.

He signed a four-year, $64 million extension this season but never got a chance to follow up last season’s feats due to his injuries.

Mike Davis, who has a team-best 642 rushing yards, is expected to miss the game due to an ankle injury.

Rodney Smith (116 yards) and Trenton Cannon (33) will be part of the game plan against New Orleans.

Left tackle Russell Okung (calf) also has been ruled out for the contest.
