The Carolina Panthers plan to release starting safety Tre Boston, punter Michael Palardy and defensive end Stephen Weatherly, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Boston officially won’t be released by the team until closer to the new league year, which begins on March 17.

Boston, 28, has two seasons remaining on the three-year, $18 million deal he signed with the club last March.

He recorded 95 tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception in 16 games last season with the Panthers.

Boston has collected 429 tackles, 15 interceptions, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 104 games (76 starts) with Carolina (2014-16, 2019-20), Los Angeles Chargers (2017) and Arizona Cardinals (2018). He was selected by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Palardy, 28, handled the punting responsibilities for the Panthers from 2017 to 2019 before missing all of last season with a torn ACL. Undrafted rookie Joseph Charlton averaged 46.3 yards per punt with three touchbacks for Carolina in 2020.

Weatherly, 26, recorded 17 tackles in nine games (all starts) for the Panthers before missing the rest of last season with a finger injury. He had 67 tackles and two forced fumbles in 49 games (seven starts) with the Minnesota Vikings from 2016-19.
