–Running back Christian McCaffrey set a franchise record with 237 yards from scrimmage in the Seattle game.

“We’ve got playmakers all over the field,” McCaffrey said, deflecting attention.

With 125 rushing yards and 112 receiving yards, he became the first Carolina player to reach 100 yards in both categories in the same game.

The second-year player has three career games with 100 or more receiving yards, becoming the team’s first running back to achieve that.

–The Panthers signed cornerback Lorenzo Doss off the practice squad. This comes amid concerns about the secondary because that unit was dinged up in the Seattle game.

The cornerbacks have come under more scrutiny in recent games.

“You have to look at the aspect that we’ve got to get pressure (on quarterbacks) in certain situations and we have to be able to make plays when we are out there on our own,” head coach Ron Rivera said.

Doss played in one game earlier this season. That came in the loss at Atlanta, making one tackle on special teams. He played in six games last year for Denver.

–The Panthers are getting plenty out of quarterback Cam Newton even during the three-game losing streak.

He has checked in with a passer rating of 100 or better in six consecutive games. That matches the fourth-longest stretch in the NFL for such a rating in the past decade.

The numbers don’t matter much to Newton at this point.

“We play to win,” he said. “No matter what the (numbers say), the most important statistic in all of sports is winning and losing.”

In the Seattle game, Newton was 14-for-14 in the first half. That became part of a franchise-record 16 straight completions when going back a week earlier to his final two throws against Detroit.

BY THE NUMBERS: 287 points scored and 282 points allowed – The Panthers have scored just slightly more points than they’ve allowed this season, with four of the five losses coming by seven points or less.
