Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater departed Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a right knee injury, but the severity wasn’t immediately known.

Bridgewater was hurt when he was sacked by Tampa Bay’s Jason Pierre-Paul in the fourth quarter. He limped to the sideline with 5:10 remaining and soon headed to the locker room with team trainers.

“He got up and walked off,” Carolina coach Matt Rhule said after the 46-23 setback. “When it comes to knees and stuff like that, I don’t know. I haven’t had a chance to see him. I have no idea (of the severity).”

Bridgewater didn’t meet with reporters after the game. He completed 18 of 24 passes for 136 yards, two touchdowns and one interception before exiting.

P.J. Walker finished up the contest for Carolina. He was 2-for-4 passing for 12 yards.

Bridgewater, 28, signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Panthers in the offseason. He has passed for 2,552 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 games this season.

Bridgewater suffered a catastrophic injury to his left knee shortly before the start of the 2016 season when he was with the Minnesota Vikings. He missed the entire season and made just one appearance late in the 2017 season.

He revived his career last season with the New Orleans Saints while starting five games in place of injured Drew Brees. Overall, he passed for 1,384 yards and nine touchdowns against two interceptions in nine appearances.

The Panthers (3-7) host the Detroit Lions next week.
