The Cincinnati Bengals are trading running back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans and will replace him with Zack Moss, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
It was originally reported on Monday night that the Bengals planned to release Mixon, 27, who is coming off his fourth career 1,000-yard season in 2023.
The return on the trade with Houston was not immediately available. Mixon is due $5.75 million in 2024 in the final year of his contract, including a $3 million roster bonus due on Sunday.
Mixon will have an opportunity to remain a starter with the Texans, who lost leading rusher Devin Singletary to the New York Giants.
Mixon appeared in 97 games (88 starts) over seven seasons with the Bengals after being selected by them in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He gained 8,551 yards from scrimmage (6,412 rushing and 2,139 receiving) with 62 touchdowns.
Moss, who spent parts of the past two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, has agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract, per the reports. ESPN reported that Moss will get $4.525 million in the first year of the deal.
Moss, 26, took advantage of Jonathan Taylor’s limited availability last season and stood out, rushing for 794 yards and five scores in 14 games (eight starts), all career highs. He has totaled 2,076 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground in 53 career games (11 starts) with the Buffalo Bills (2020-22) and Colts.
He also has 75 career receptions for 523 yards and four scores. Buffalo took Moss in the third round of the 2020 draft.
