Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and center J.C. Tretter both suffered apparent leg injuries on the same play early in the first quarter on Sunday at Cincinnati.
On the Browns’ second offensive snap, quarterback Baker Mayfield was intercepted on a deep throw down the right sideline intended for Beckham.
Beckham was assisted off the field and taken to the Browns’ locker room. The team said he would not return due to a knee injury.
Beckham, 27, has 23 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns this season. The three-time Pro Bowl selection has 487 receptions for 6,830 yards and 51 scores in 82 games with the Browns (2019-20) and New York Giants (2014-18).
The NFL Network reported after the game that the injury is feared to be “major” and Beckham is scheduled to have an MRI exam on Monday morning to determine the severity.
After the interception, Tretter was on the turf clutching his right leg and knee area. He was helped off the field and received treatment on the Cleveland sideline before returning to the game during the Browns’ next offensive series.
Tretter, 29, has started all 55 games with the Browns since signing with the team in March 2017. Before that, he played three seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
Cleveland (5-2) overcame the early setback to win 37-34 at Cincinnati. The Browns are scheduled to host the Las Vegas Raiders (3-2) in Week 8.
