–The Browns have played three straight games without giving up a sack. The last time that happened was in 1988.

“All quarterbacks know that their best friends in the world in combat are those linemen and what they do for him,” Browns interim head coach Gregg Williams said. “If I’m Baker (Mayfield), I’m around patting those guys on that back, I’m talking to them and I am being best friends with them.”

–Center JC Tretter, who played three seasons in Green Bay under Mike McCarthy, believes McCarthy and Mayfield would work together smoothly if McCarthy becomes the Browns next head coach. McCarthy was fired on Sunday after 13 seasons coaching the Packers.

“I think they would do great,” Tretter said. “(McCarthy) started working with Aaron (Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers) when Aaron was a rookie too (actually Rodgers’ second season) and Aaron’s developed into a hell of a player so I think that relationship would be fine.

“I see a lot of similarities between Aaron and Baker personality-wise, competitiveness, and that’s all the things that Aaron came in with too when he was a young player, so I think they’d work well together.”

Browns general manager John Dorsey was in the Green Bay front office from 2006-11 while McCarthy was Packers head coach.

–Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi is dealing with a biceps injury that could prevent him from playing against the Panthers on Sunday. Ogunjobi, in his second season, is one of the most improved players on the Browns’ defense.

“We’ll see the significance of it and the serious of it, but he is a real tough guy,” Williams said. “If he can play through it, he’s one of the few guys we have that can do something like that.”

Ogunjobi played 33 (43 percent) of the snaps in Houston last Sunday. He did not practice Wednesday.

–Cornerback Terrance Mitchell will play against the Panthers after being activated from injured reserve as a player designated to return. Mitchell suffered a broken wrist playing the Oakland Raiders in the fourth game.

“He’s had two good weeks of practice,” Williams said. “We had kind of a formula both from physically and the mental part of it, making sure that everything is right. He’ll take the next jump up this week. He’s been involved. He’s been travelling with us and doing everything.”

Mitchell was starting before being injured.

BY THE NUMBERS: 0 – Fumbles on 273 carries by Browns running backs Nick Chubb (131), Carlos Hyde (114) and Duke Johnson 28) this season. Hyde was traded to Jacksonville on Oct. 19 for a fifth-round draft pick.
