The Denver Broncos acquired veteran quarterback Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens Wednesday in exchange for a mid-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The trade won’t be made official until the new league year starts on March 13.

Flacco, who guided the Ravens to a win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVIII, was expendable due to the emergence of Lamar Jackson at quarterback last season. Jackson is expected to be the Ravens starter this fall.

Flacco, 34, passed for 38,425 yards and 212 touchdowns over his 11-year tenure as Baltimore’s starting signal-caller. He’s been extremely durable, starting every regular season game in all but two seasons (2015 and 2018).

Flacco lost his starting job to Jackson in Week 10 last season and did not see any action in the Ravens AFC Wildcard Playoff loss despite Jackson’s struggles.

In nine games last season, Flacco completed 232 of 379 passes for 2,465 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Flacco’s best season was in 2016 when he passed for a career-high 4,317 and 20 touchdowns.

Denver still has Case Keenum under contract for 2019, so it will be interesting to see how he is affected by the Flacco acquisition.
