Russell Wilson threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Seattle Seahawks to a last second field goal, keeping their playoff alive, as the Seahawks defeated the Carolina Panthers, 30-27. Sebastian Janikowski’s 31-yard field goal as time expired allowed Seattle to complete a come-from-behind win putting them firmly in contention for an NFC Wild Card spot.

The Panthers suddenly find themselves on the outside looking in at the NFC playoff picture after losing three consecutive games. They also had their 10-game home winning streak snapped. Graham Gano missed a 52-yard field goal with 1:40 left in the game that would have given the Panthers the lead. It snapped a string of 41 consecutive made field goals at home for Gano, including a 63-yarder earlier this year.

After the game, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, ”McCaffrey was awesome. Cam was awesome. But when they got into the red zone, we stopped them. We had four big stops and they were all crucial.”

“Basically just stick together,” Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera told his team after the game. “We still have five games left to go. We control it. Go out and play. You have to play to win. That’s just the bottom line. One-game series from here on out. ”

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton completed 25 of 30 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Carolina offense. Newton began the day with 14 straight completions, the best-ever start for a Panthers quarterback. Christian McCaffrey became the first player in franchise history with over 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving in a game. His 237 yards (125 rushing, 112 receiving) set a franchise record for scrimmage yards in a game.
