Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson has been suspended two games by the NFL on Tuesday for a violation of its substances of abuse policy and program.

The suspension begins immediately and runs through the remainder of the regular season.

“Kareem Jackson was arrested for driving under the influence on Thursday, Sept. 19. He immediately informed our team of the incident, which we promptly reported to the NFL and thoroughly reviewed as an organization,” the Broncos said in a statement.

“There are high standards for the personal conduct of all members of our organization, and we have expressed our extreme disappointment to Kareem for his poor judgment.”

Jackson, who was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week last week, recorded 71 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble in 13 games this season.

The 31-year-old has collected 578 tackles, 18 interceptions, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 145 career games with the Texans and Broncos since being selected by Houston with the 20th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.
