The Jacksonville Jaguars added a veteran backup to incumbent starter Gardner Minshew on Friday by signing quarterback Mike Glennon.

The 30-year-old journeyman has appeared in 29 games with four teams since the 2013 season, passing for 5,163 yards with 36 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

“Mike is entering his eighth season in the NFL and will bring vital experience into our quarterback room and make us a better football team,” Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “We want to be as strong as possible at every position.

“We expect Mike to come in and work hard, compete every day and help our team win.”

The 6-foot-7 Glennon was a third-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2013. He started 18 games in his first two seasons with the Buccaneers, throwing for 4,025 yards with 29 TDs and 15 picks. He started four games for the Chicago Bears in 2017 and spent the last two years as a backup with the Arizona Cardinals (2018) and Oakland Raiders (2019).

Minshew, who turns 24 on May 16, was 6-6 as a rookie last season. He completed 60.6 percent of his passes for 3,271 yards with 21 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Other quarterbacks on the Jacksonville roster are fourth-year veteran Josh Dobbs and 2020 sixth-round pick Jake Luton. The Jaguars traded Nick Foles to the Bears on March 18.
