The Oakland Raiders released guard Mike Brisiel on Tuesday with three years remaining on a five-year contract he signed with the team in 2012.

The move will clear $1.38 million in salary-cap space for the Raiders unless Brisiel is designated for a post-June 1 release.

The 31-year-old veteran was set to make $3.85 million in base salary in 2014 as part of the five-year, $20 million contract he received when he came to Oakland after six years with the Houston Texans.

After starting 30 games during the past two seasons for the Raiders, Brisiel did not have a spot in the lineup locked up for this year, the team indicated.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Brisiel has played in 80 games and started 77 during his eight-year NFL career.
