The Miami Dolphins have restructured cornerback Xavien Howard’s contract to free up $3.77 million in cap space, NFL Network reported Thursday.

The move comes three months after the team restructured Howard’s contract in response to Howard requesting a trade. Miami fully guaranteed Howard’s 2021 base salary of $12.785 million while adding up to $3.5 million in incentives in August. The team also adjusted his 2022 salary, including fully guaranteeing $6.775 million.

Howard, 28, has two interceptions this season after leading the NFL with 10 in 2020. He has 34 tackles, 12 passes defended and two forced fumbles in 10 starts this season.

The Dolphins (4-7) host the Carolina Panthers (5-6) on Sunday.
