The Miami Dolphins have informed linebacker Kyle Van Noy that he’s going to be released, ESPN and NFL Network reported Tuesday. The expected move will save the team $9.75 million in cap space.

Van Noy, 29, was one year into a four-year, $51 million deal he signed with Miami in March 2020 with $30 million guaranteed. The Dolphins will incur a $4.125 million dead cap hit this season.

Van Noy registered 69 tackles in 14 games (13 starts) last season with six sacks and 10 quarterback hits. He had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Van Noy notched 16.5 sacks in three-plus seasons with the New England Patriots after two-plus seasons with the Detroit Lions, who drafted him in the second round (No. 40 overall) in the 2014 draft.
