Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith was ejected following a helmet-to-helmet hit on Houston Texans tight end Jordan Akins late in the first half of Sunday’s game.
Smith was disqualified after administering the hit on Akins following a 26-yard catch. Akins was injured on the play while Smith was whistled for a penalty.
Houston’s drive continued and finished with a 28-yard field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn. Akins was ruled out with a concussion.
Smith, 31, entered the game with 18 tackles and an interception in three games this season.
The five-time Pro Bowl selection has recorded 676 tackles, 24 interceptions, seven forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries in 117 career games with the Vikings.
