New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore is out for the final two games of the season with a partially torn quadriceps muscle.

According to multiple reports, Gilmore is slated for surgery Tuesday, ending his season.

The Patriots were eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday in a loss to the Miami Dolphins. As the Patriots built a 6-0 halftime lead, Gilmore left the game and did not return.

NFL Network reported, citing sources, that Gilmore suffered no structural damage to his knee.

The 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Gilmore is under contract for the 2021 season at $7 million. He has been discussed in trade conversations and could be brought up in the offseason as the Patriots attempt to rebuild a contender.

Gilmore tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the season. For the 2020 season, he recorded three pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble and 37 total tackles in 11 games played.
