With fans not permitted to attend games in New Orleans, the Saints are exploring the possibility of playing about 80 miles away at LSU’s Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said the operations staff met with LSU officials on Tuesday.

“LSU has been gracious and enthusiastic regarding hosting our future games and we very much appreciate their partnership. We have also discussed the possibility of moving our home games to LSU with the NFL and they are aware of our exploring this option,” Bensel said. “Obviously, our overwhelming preference is to play our games in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with partial fan attendance but there has been no indication from the city on when, or if, this might be approved.”

The Saints improved to 3-2 with a 30-27 overtime win against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night at the empty Superdome.

New Orleans has a bye this weekend before hosting the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 25. The Saints have two home games in November and two in December.

COVID-19 restrictions limited attendance to about 21,000 fans for LSU’s Sept. 26 home opener against Mississippi State, roughly 20 percent capacity for Tiger Stadium.
