New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley told reporters that he “felt good” on Thursday after he completed his second consecutive day of running in his bid to work his way back from a high ankle sprain.

Barkley, who officially was listed on the injury report as “did not practice,” originally was expected to miss four to eight weeks after he was hobbled off in New York’s 32-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 22.

The Giants (2-2) have not ruled out the 22-year-old Barkley for Sunday’s game against the visiting Minnesota Vikings (2-2).

“Got to do a little bit more. Felt good,” Barkley said. “But like I said, focus on the Vikings and focusing on tomorrow and attacking tomorrow.”

Barkley, who was the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, missed a game for the first time in his career on Sunday when New York breezed to a 24-3 win over the Washington Redskins.

“He’ll be doing a little bit more each day,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “We’ll just bring him back as quickly and as smartly as possible.”

Barkley has rushed 37 times for 237 yards (6.4-yard average) with one touchdown and added 11 catches for 74 yards in three games this season.
