The New York Giants will welcome Eli Manning back to the organization in 2020, if he desires, owner John Mara said.

Appearing on New York’s WFAN 660 radio on Friday, Mara said on the “Moose and Maggie” show that he and Manning have discussed the future.

“Eli came to see me a few days ago, and we had a nice long talk,” “Mara said. “But I don’t think he’s fully decided yet what he wants to do. And I told him to just take his time, think about it some more and then come back and see me again.”

New coach Joe Judge, hired this week, has not weighed in on whether he’d have a place for Manning on the field as a backup to quarterback Daniel Jones.

Recently, Manning — who has been with the Giants since 2004 — said he didn’t think he’d consider a backup role.

“I doubt it,” Manning said on Dec. 30. “Backing up is not real fun.”

Manning turned 39 last week.

Mara said he didn’t think Manning’s mind was completely closed to the backup position but that he opened the possibilities of opportunities beyond the field for Manning.

“I’ve mentioned to him the possibility of thinking about other roles in the organization, and he’s just undecided right now,” Mara continued. “The season just ended recently, and he needs to take some more time and think about it. And I told him there’s no time limit on that. We’ll talk whenever he’s ready to sit down and talk again.”
