Offensive guard Kevin Zeitler was released by the New York Giants on Wednesday.

Zeitler, who turned 31 on Monday, was let go one day after general manager Dave Gettleman said New York was ready to usher in young offensive linemen. Head coach Joe Judge also said the team has had discussions with left tackle Nate Solder, but was unclear whether a restructured contract or transaction might be coming with the former New England Patriots left tackle.

Solder, who turns 33 next month, opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

Zeitler started 31 games in his two seasons with the Giants, all at right guard. He started 16 games in 2020. An ankle injury in 2019 ended a streak of 85 consecutive games started.

The Giants acquired Zeitler from the Cleveland Browns in the trade that sent Olivier Vernon out of New York. Zeitler played two years for the Browns and five seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals.
