Daniel Jones is safe as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants despite three consecutive losses.

Coach Pat Shurmur said the team is not considering making a switch. The rookie guided the Giants to a win at Tampa Bay in his first NFL start, replacing longtime Giants leader Eli Manning, but the sixth overall pick has fallen on hard times of late.

Jones has encountered turnover issues and, in particular, fumble problems. He lost three against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and has seven interceptions and six fumbles in five starts.

Shurmur was asked if he’s ready to consider a change at the position.

“No,” Shurmur said. “I think Daniel is going to learn from everything that’s going on. Just like all the other rookies and their playing, they’re going to learn from the things that happen. But you have to learn and you have to win games, and I’m well aware of that. I’m totally well aware of that.

Jones said he’s keenly aware of his ball security issues and the impact it can have on the team. The Giants are 2-5 this season.

“I think if you have one, it’s too many. So, I think yeah, I’ve just got to do a better job of all of that,” Jones said. “I think kind of the focus right now is to improve, is to fix what we need to do better, and try to get back on track this week. But yeah, I’m certainly confident in myself, I’m confident in the team that we will fix it and hopefully get back on track this week.”

Jones has completed 61.1 percent of his passes for 1,144 yards and six touchdowns. He has rushed for 121 yards and two scores.
