The New York Jets placed tight end Ryan Griffin on injured reserve with an ankle injury on Thursday, ending his season.

The Jets filled the roster spot by activating offensive lineman Brent Qvale from IR.

Griffin joined New York during training camp and had a productive season, catching 34 passes for 320 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games. It was enough to earn an extension from the team, signed in November, for a reported $10.8 million over three years.

Griffin, who turns 30 in January, spent his first six seasons with the Houston Texans, catching 136 passes for 1,491 yards and seven touchdowns in 77 games (36 starts).

Qvale, 28, is returning from a knee injury sustained in training camp. He has been with the Jets since 2014, starting 14 of 60 games while playing primarily right tackle and right guard.
