Mutual interest exists between free agent wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and the New York Jets.

According to multiple reports, the two sides have discussed parameters of a contract that would reunite the free agent with his college quarterback at Southern Cal, Sam Darnold.

The Jets have already added a wide receiver, signing Titans free agent Corey Davis to a three-year deal on Wednesday.

Smith-Schuster is one of the best available free agents remaining and, along with Detroit Lions free agent Kenny Golladay, could command a larger contract than most of the wideouts on the open market.

Darnold’s future with the Jets appeared tenuous at the end of the season. General manager Joe Douglas hasn’t shown his hand, but with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft and a new head coach, speculation is rampant Darnold could still be moved.

Smith-Schuster had 97 receptions and nine touchdowns in 2020. He had 308 receptions and 26 touchdowns in four seasons with the Steelers.

Smith-Schuster is likely too pricey for Pittsburgh, given the Steelers’ tight salary cap situation.

Other teams rumored to be interested in the 24-year-old include the Lions, Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars.
