With Zach Ertz free to sign with any team after mutually parting ways with the Arizona Cardinals, Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert weighed in on the possibility of his former teammate returning to Philadelphia.

“You just don’t see that very often,” Goedert told reporters Saturday when asked about a potential reunion.

Ertz and Goedert shared a locker room in Philadelphia for parts of four seasons, which included a 41-33 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Ertz started his career in Philly five years prior to Goedert’s arrival, and Goedert largely was considered Ertz’s heir apparent.

“I spent a lot of time with him,” Goedert said. “You know, it’s interesting. We’ll see what happens with him, but I hope the best for him.”

Ertz cleared waivers Friday after being released by the Cardinals in what reportedly was a mutual decision. He had been placed on injured reserve on Oct. 24 due to a quad strain, an injury sustained two days earlier in Arizona’s 20-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Goedert is dealing with his own injury, a fractured forearm suffered in the Eagles’ 28-23 win over the visiting Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 5. He’s listed as doubtful for Sunday’s home matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

According to ESPN, Ertz wants to play for a contender, with Kansas City, Buffalo and Baltimore likely to be in the mix with Philadelphia.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Ertz has 27 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown in seven games this season.

This is the second straight season that Ertz has landed on IR. Last season, he tore his ACL and MCL in a Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Over his career, Ertz has caught 709 passes for 7,434 yards and 46 touchdowns in 151 career games with the Eagles (2013-21) and Cardinals.
