San Francisco 49ers cornerback K’Waun Williams was suspended for two games by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Depending on the status of an ankle injury, the earliest Williams will be eligible to play after the suspension is when the 49ers host the Washington Football Team on Dec. 13.

Williams wasn’t expected to play in San Francisco’s next two games after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 5.

The 29-year-old Williams has 14 tackles and one sack in six games (three starts) this season.

The 49ers also opened the 21-day practice window for running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. — both are on injured reserve after sustaining ankle injuries. It is possible Mostert could play against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Mostert has a team-best 303 rushing yards despite playing in just four games. Wilson has 163 yards rushing in six games.
