Backup quarterback Nick Mullens signed his exclusive-rights free agent tender with the San Francisco 49ers, ESPN reported Friday.

Mullens, 25, is scheduled to earn $750,000 during the 2020 season before becoming a restricted free agent in 2021.

He didn’t attempt a pass during the 2019 season as starter Jimmy Garoppolo guided the 49ers all the way to Super Bowl LIV.

In 2018, Mullens started eight games for an injured Garoppolo. He posted a 3-5 record and completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 2,277 yards with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
