Wide receiver Torrey Smith was officially released by the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday.

Smith, 28, spent two seasons with San Francisco after signing a five-year, $40 million deal with San Francisco before the 2015 season, catching 53 passes for 930 yards and seven touchdowns.

Last season, Smith posted career lows in receptions (20), receiving yards (267) and touchdowns (three).

“The 49ers would like to thank Torrey for representing this organization with tremendous class over the last two years,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said in a statement. “I have always had great respect for his skill as a player and as a wonderful example of how professional athletes can use their platform to make a difference in our community. We wish Torrey, and his family, all the best.”

Smith thanked the 49ers in a lengthy Instagram post ahead of his impending release on Monday.

“I would like to say thank you to the 49ers allowing me to wear red and gold for the last 2 seasons,” Smith wrote. “It didn’t go the way we wanted it to but I’m thankful for the relationships I was able to build. I had a great time in the locker room with my teammates and equipment staff.”

Smith also apologized to 49ers fans, saying they “didn’t get to see me at my best.” He even thanked the team’s janitors and chefs who he said “were always great to me.”

On Tuesday morning, Smith tweeted “Thankful for another day…..back to work!”
