Kyle Allen will start again for the Washington Football Team on Sunday, provided he doesn’t feel the effects of an arm injury.
Allen replaced Dwayne Haskins as Washington’s starter in their 30-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday but left before halftime with the injury. He was cleared to return to the game, but coach Ron Rivera chose to stick with veteran Alex Smith as a precautionary measure.
On Monday, Rivera was clear about the quarterback hierarchy for Week 6 when Washington (1-4) hosts the New York Giants (0-5).
“He’s our starter,” Rivera said of Allen.
Before the injury, which occurred when Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey hit him as he ran for a first down, Allen connected on nine of 13 passes for 74 yards. He rushed for one touchdown.
“He delivered a good ball for the most part,” Rivera said. “He managed well.”
Haskins dropped to No. 3 on the depth chart after completing just 61.0 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and three interceptions in the first four games of the season.
Smith saw his first game action since November 2018, when he broke his right leg in two places in a game against the Houston Texans. He was 9-of-17 passing for 37 yards.
