BC’s Ryan O’Keefe stretchered off field, taken to hospital

Boston College wide receiver Ryan O’Keefe was stretchered off the field and taken to a local hospital on Saturday after a collision during the Eagles’ game against visiting Virginia.

O’Keefe “was immobilized and transported to Mass General Hospital due to a neck injury,” the school announced.

O’Keefe and Virginia cornerback Malcolm Greene collided in the opening minute of the fourth quarter and both players went remained down after the hit. While Greene was able to get up, O’Keefe remained on the field for several minutes, tended to by medical personnel while most players took a knee on the field.

O’Keefe had three catches for 21 yards and two rushes for 13 yards before the injury.

O’Keefe is in his first season with BC after spending four years with UCF.

He came into Saturday’s game with 20 catches for 214 yards and a touchdown. O’Keefe had 204 career receptions and 16 TDs entering the contest.
