Former Middle Tennessee defensive end Alexandro Antoine died within the past week. He was 27.

Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill said Antoine died in his native Haiti. Stockstill didn’t reveal the cause of death but referred to it as a “tragedy.”

“A tragedy happened this weekend,” Stockstill said. “We lost one of our former players, Alexandro Antoine, who was in Haiti. He’s probably been there for the last eight to 12 months. I don’t have all the facts right now on how and what happened, but we lost him this weekend.

“I just wanted his family to know that my thoughts and prayers from this team, this coaching staff, his former teammates, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this tragedy. Another example of a young man that is gone too soon.”

Antoine was with the Middle Tennessee program from 2011-15. He redshirted his first year on campus before playing in 46 games (20 starts) over the next four campaigns.

Antoine had 70 tackles (6.5 for loss) and 2.5 sacks for the Blue Raiders. He missed the final game of his career — the Bahamas Bowl vs. Western Michigan — due to an unspecified violation of team rules.
