Wizards’ Bradley Beal (knee) exits preseason game vs. Knicks

Wizards star guard Bradley Beal departed Washington’s Friday preseason road game against the New York Knicks due to a right knee contusion.

Beal sustained the injury during the first half, according to the team.

The severity of the ailment wasn’t immediately known.

Beal, a three-time All-Star, has finished second in the NBA in scoring in each of the past two seasons.

Beal averaged 31.3 points per game last season to finish behind the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry (32.0). He had a 30.5 average in 2019-20 as the runner-up to James Harden (34.3), who was with the Houston Rockets at the time.

He is averaging 22 points, 4.1 rebounds and four assists in 605 games (571 starts) in nine seasons, all with the Wizards.

Beal’s 13,303 points rank second in franchise history behind Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes (15,551 from 1972-81).
